It has a soft bouquet of berries with subtle gleams of vanilla and chocolate. Its body is of a medium intensity, with sweet tannins that provide harmony and balance, and a serious amount of enjoyment. Easy to drink for any occasion, or no occasion at all!
Intense ruby-red with purplish shadings, pleasant tones of berries, red fruits, vines and earth in the nose with bright fruits, light tannins and a pleasant clean finish on the palate. Aged for six months in oak. A great table wine with excellent acidity.
The organically grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina has a deep ruby color. Tasting notes: Black cherries and currant flavors, with a touch of plum and spices at the end. This wine is wonderful with grilled scallops, roasted lamb, grilled steak or spaghetti.
This premium blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah produces rich chocolate and black curant flavors with warm, spicy aromas. Winemaker Laurent Miquel handcrafts this wine in the Languedoc region of France using the finest fruit from his own estates.
This dark purple wine has aromas of black cherry and cassis, with hints of tar, tobacco and sweet vanilla toast. Black cherry and blackberry fruit continue on the palate with dried herbs and licorice. The flavors are well integrated with the tannins, and there is a semi sweet finish on the palate that is lingering and well balanced.
This wine can pair easily with a wide variety of food, including barbeque or a mouth watering burger.
C = 39% Cabernet . M = 45% Merlot . S = 16% Syrah
REDS is delicious, spicy, and rich with zinfandel providing dark raspberry fruit, carignan adding an exotic tang of white pepper, while the petite syrah tones down the tendency of zinfandel to become too jammy and pulls the whole blend together with its deep color and black bepper flavors. Enjoy with Mediterranean cuisine, burgers, and barbeque!
A friendly wine from the Rhone Valley. Crisp, tart acidity compresses the palate and texture of this dense ruby/ plum/ purple-colored beauty. Sweet blackcurrant and cherry fruit along with medium-bodied, nicely concentrated flavors make it a great wine for dinner or just by itself. 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah.
Sylvain Fadat of Domaine d'Aupilhac is making some of the best wines of his career, wines that I'll gladly put in the ring with other wines in the same price range from any region or country in the world-and I'm willing to bet this Lou Maset cannot be bested. This is a serious wine for the price. Hell's bells, it is serious, period-the astonishing aromas of roasted herbs, ripe southern fruit, and crushed stones leap from the glass. In France, Sylvain is celebrated as one of the top four or five producers in Languedoc, because of the impressive depth and complexity of his reds.
A Sangiovese (the grape used to make Chianti) this wine is grown south of Ancona, near Ascoli Piceno, which is a mountainous region that borders Abruzzo. Brambly, forward plump berry fruits jump out with great medium acidity. An easy and far more interesting wine to enjoy than your supermarket Cab or Pinot. Fine pizza and burger wine for BBQ's this summer.
The color is rich ruby with garnet hues. Aromas of roses, violets, red cherries, pomegranate and cranberries are followed by hints of truffle, vanilla and smoke. The Pinot has lovely flavors of tart red cherry and raspberry with a touch of vanilla. Smooth and silky, the wine is dry and mouth filling with bright acidity.
70% Tannat with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Madiran is a South West France Appelation known for powerful red wines made primarily from the Tannat grape. Chateau Fitere has been in the same family since 1760, and Marius Fitere was the leader in the creation of the Madiran Appellation in 1948. The vines are 40-50 years old and are planted on a clay-limestone soil with loose gravel at the surface. This wine exhibits dense flavors of dark plum, dried berry, smoke and spice.
Made with 100% Negro Amaro grape, this wine shows a dark ruby red color with an intense and fruity perfume. Full bodied, soft with firm tannins. Perfect with roasted and grilled meat and aged cheese.
This 2009 Zinfandel offers round, juicy flavors of black cherry and raspberry with hints of peppery spice. Recommended pairings include grilled tri-tip steak, wood-fired pizza and chicken fajitas.
Traditionally grown in the Alto Adige in northeastern Italy, it's rare to find lagrein grown in the United States. But it seems to thrive in the cool climate, mountainous terrain of California's Central Coast. The same ink-dark, purple-tinged color as its Italian counterpart, the Praxis Lagrein has bright, food-friendly acidity, slightly floral aromas with underpinning scents of vines and earth and ripe cherry and blueberry aromas and flavors. A slight kiss of chocolate and vanilla adds some nice intrigue.
With a deep ruby red color, this wine has intense and complex aromas, typical of the grape variety, with notes of cherries, floral and vanilla hints. The taste is soft and round with well integrated tannins, pleasantly alcoholic. Good texture and excellent balance. The finish is persistent and mouth filling.
Produced at Fattoria Del Cerro estate, this wine has a vivid ruby red color and good concentration. Intense fragrant aroma with evident fruity notes among which wild black cherry, violet and vanilla. Full balanced flavor with noticeable but discreet tannic component. Can be served with appetizing first courses with meat and mushroom sauces, grilled meats and roasted white meats and medium aged cheese.
A beautiful organic Carneros Pinot, fruit-forward with strawberry, cherry, and earthy characteristics. Medium tannins and great acidity blend into a smooth balanced finish. This is an excellent food wine that goes well with many dishes such as: grilled salmon, stuffed mushrooms, polenta, and tenderloin of beef.
If you haven't yet discovered the wines of southern France, this would be a great place to start. It's like a slow dance with a beautiful girl on a summer evening. It's earthy and sultry and charged with potential. You just want to keep dancing. A dark black-red wine with scents of earthy herbs and blackberries. Solid structure with balanced tannins and acids, great finish. A blend of Mourvedre, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache and Cinsault. A hands-down winner at our last wine tasting. One of Wally's favorite wines - period! You can choose it as an option for most wine baskets on our site.
The special care they dedicate to the cultivation and vinification of the rare Piemontese Ruche and its limited production set it apart from the crowd. Known by its characteristic ruby red color tinged with purple, intense fruit aromas and dry though velvety and harmonious flavors make it particularly suited to roasts, wild game and aged cheeses. Its solid structure and acidity make it suitable for aging and we recommend decanting an hour before serving.
Flagship wine of the estate, the HFE Red Mountain consistently displays dense color, firm tannins, and well-defined acidity. Always a majority blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine is suitable for drinking upon release, but will reward those with the patience to age it. This wine represents all vineyard blocks farmed within the Hedges Family Estate vineyard portfolio. A true chateau-production bottling, the HFE Red Mountain is the epitome of classic style, and one that represents the Terroir of the Red Mountain AVA in a pure and elegant form.
Domaine Catherine Le Goeuil - 100% Biodynamic made from Organic Grapes and imported from Kermit Lynch (whose taste, in our opinion, is unparalleled). This dynamic Cotes du Rhone village wine is 50% Grenache from 100 year old vines, with rest being composed of Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Carignan, and Counoise. Generous and round in the mouth with flavors of red fruit and spice, these wines can be enjoyed young but age very well. Perfect with lamb and meats off the grill or a great cheese plate. Catherine is a talented winemaker, whose talent is apparent in the bottle.
The 2005 Arbios Cabernet is classic ruby red in color with purple highlights. Berry, cherry and plum aromas are followed by hints of clove, allspice and vanilla. The cherry is also woven into the wine's flavor and is complemented by notes of toffee and forest floor. The wine is dry and soft with moderate acid. The wine is full bodied with round full tannins.
To quote Patricia Green, this bottling is a burly wine. Denser, with blacker fruit than the average Pinot Noir, it has a potent taste with a wonderful minerality to balance its racy fruit. Given time, the wine will develop further. But good luck not drinking it now.
This wine consists of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc. The finesse and subtlety that characterize this wine are matched by its complexity and depth.
From magnum. This has beautifully poised fruit on the nose, elegant, with a fine, rather claretty violet perfume. Nevertheless it is quite restrained on the palate, firm and tannic, with a lot of structure underneath. Nice balancing acidity. This has just bags of potential, but it needs a lot of time. A finely composed wine.
Produced with Nebbiolo grapes, it is an elegant, modern barolo of an intense garnet red colour. An ethereal bouquet of violet and sweet spices, it's velvery and greatly persistent. Try it with red meat, game, and mature cheeses.
Wine Advocate - "The 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Marega is rather closed in on itself. It shows gorgeous palate presence and weight, but the bouquet is muted and the elements donÆt quite come together in the glass. Still, over time, enough of the wineÆs fabric comes to life to make me think all it needs is time. Dried flowers, minerals, new leather and wild cherries comes through on the finish."

Bright, saturated ruby color gives way to a thin clear rim by the edge of the glass. Bright red fruit and forest floor aromas presage deep flavors of cherries and winter spices nestled in a luxe texture. Well-developed, fine tannins and bright acidity provide the sort of balance and structure that will allow many years, if not decades, of enjoyment. It only hints of its potential now, baring just the first bit of skin in a very slow striptease.
Like a person who knows from where they came, the FrogÆs Leap Rutherford stands as a true representation of the bench lands of the Rutherford appellation. The wine reveals classic flavors of the Rutherford Dust: rich dark fruit, black olive, black current and cassis layered with hints of earth and cigar box. The splash of cabernet franc not only adds a soft textural component but contributes to the green tea aromatics. The lush velvety texture is balanced with subtle yet well defined tannins.
Composed of the five classic varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, Cain Five epitomizes the benefits of blending to achieve a complex wine. It is supple and rich of texture, combining a full, firm structure with a long and subtle finish.
Simply called a "Bivarietal", this tasty and lively Chardonnay is deliciously blended with Argentina's indigenous calling card Torrontes. This is an incredible value for a world-class white. This boasts flavors of fresh lime blossom, key lime pie, and floral notes. This is fresh and clean in the mouth with a persistent, bright finish. An exceptional value white for anytime!
La Fiera Moscato is a soft wine with flavors of apricot and peach in its fruity bouquet. The palate is sweet and crisp with a hint of spritz. It's best enjoyed simply as a sipper or paired with light cuisine, even desserts.
Yellow color of medium intensity. Intense aromas of matured fruits, honey and dried fruits like pears, apricots and peaches, orange skin and roses. Sweet, unctuous in the mouth, silky, with balanced acidity; complex and long finish.
Golden-yellow wine, ideal as an accompaniment to hors d'oeuvres, particularly ham, light soups, fish, and white meat. Also enjoyable as an Apertif. Best served chilled.
A distinctive bouquet with fine intense floral notes, some minerality, and the underlying suggestion of ripe grapes. Fresh and refined with an attractive intensity. A fine expression of Sauvignon Blanc, this wine is a delight. Quality grapes and a winemaker's expert touch combined to reach new heights.
This fine wine offers delicacy, strength and good structure, having fermented and aged in fine-grained French oak barrels. Its subtle bouquet reveals floral notes, fresh butter and hints of vanilla. Fresh and intense at entry, rich flavours then give way to pleasant toasty notes. Shades of vanilla oak underline the Chardonnay's well-rounded palate and aromatic intensity.
Produced from 60% Catarratto and 40% Pinot Grigio grapes, this wine offers the perfect expression of Sicily, just as nature intended it. This wine combines the unique style of the Sicilian terrain and the floral citrussy characteristics of the grapes. The producer uses natural methods for fertilization and pest control so that the wine can be made with organic grapes. Also the bottles are composed of recycled glass, while the labels and boxes are made from recycled paper.
Zum offers racy notes of lime, apple, honey, and lively slate minerality. Vibrant acidity is balanced by just a touch of sweetness that will leave your palate satisfied and refreshed.
Chardonnay is as close to a Chablis style white as you can find on the west coast. The wine sees no oak, and is a true definition of terroir winemaking, highlighting the beautiful vineyards of Sagemoor Farms, specifically the Dionysus Vineyard.
This is a delicate wine with a pale yellow hue. Soft on the nose with clear fruit scents.
This Bordeaux blanc is made with 60% semillon, as well as sauvignon blanc and a little muscadelle. It exhibits a floral nose with notes of grapefruit and a nice underpinning minerality. On the palate it's fuller bodied and more aromatic than sauvignon blanc alone and finishes clean with a very nice acid balance. Great with almost any fish dish, poultry, softer cheeses and salads.
Ribolla gialla, a white grape native to Friuli, has been intensively studied in recent years and is an official variety in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC. It yields a green- tinged, straw yellow wine with a very distinctive bouquet and refreshingly crisp, youthful flavours, dry and well balanced. It is perfect for all types of fish. Wine lovers are showing such growing interest in Ribolla Gialla that production is lagging far behind.
For Old-World Sauvignon Blanc fans, this is a must try. Aromas hint at Lemon grass and granny smith apple with a flinty minerality. On the palate, a bright beam of acidity leads with wet stone, lemon-lime, and salt water following. There is an acute intensity to this wine. Buy a few bottles of this fantastic value to serve with seared scallops or a supper of fresh bread and artisan cheese.
Domaine Taille aux Loups, Montlouis Sec, Dix Arpents. This refreshing bright wine is brought to you by phenomenon Jackie Blot who is making a name for himself and the whites of the Loire Valley in France. Jackie works closely with nature - handpicking the grapes, few fertilizers, pruning short and keeping yields down - to produce this crisply acidic wine. You might find hints of apricot, a stoney minerality, yet a roundness at the core, and tones of lime on the finish with a vibrancy that we must attribute to fine winemaking. Pour a cold glass and enjoy with poultry, fish, cream sauces, cheese (great with goat cheese) and salads. This is not the California Chenin Blanc of the 70s! It's an elegant wine to fit all tastes.
Lavantureux's Chablis is rich, of a golden hue, and laden with minerality. It tastes great now, but Lavantureux Chablis can age beautifully for at least 10 to 15 years.
This vintage displays subtle floral aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle, with some pineapple and tropical notes, with overtones of Meyer lemon. The acidity is bright and crisp, while the mouthfeel is creamy, leesy and complex. A note of hazelnut and spice harmonizes well with the toasty oak and lengthens the elegant finish.
Delicious floral and fruit aromas with a nice oaky note. An attractive marriage of power and elegance, this wine also offers lovely smoothness. Good ageing potential.
A light, delicately sweet Moscato Rose with tones of peach and strawberry on the nose. Frizzante rather than fully sparkling and with enough acidity for a nice clean finish. One of our most popular wines, selling out at our last three tastings - we almost had a fight break out over it. Pleasant and easy to drink, perfect for sitting in the garden and enjoying the day.
A crisp sparkler with apple fruit flavors and good body preceeding a dry finish. With less alcohol and fewer bubbles than other sparkling wines, this is an ideal aperitif.
Pale yellow in colour, nose of apples and dough w. some nuttyness. Small bubbles, medium bodied. On the palate, there is not a lot of residual sugar here...apple, unripe pear. It has a nice crispness and acidity with a pleasing creamy finish.
J. Lassalle Premier Cru Brut offers a beautiful aroma with tones of yeast and dough, has a wonderful creaminess on the palate, then finishes with a light acidity that leaves you wanting more. Excellent as an aperitif or with a meal. Yummy!
From one of the great Champagne producers, its elegant complexities come from barrel-ageing some of the blend, together with at least four years maturation in bottle before disgorging. Moreover, the addition of a small dosage in this non-vintage blend, results in a fruitier style of champagne, yet with a surprising depth of flavour.
Made only in years of exceptional harvest, this wine has a lovely yellow colour with green tints, brilliant with delicate effervescence. The seductive nose is on the border between fresh scents and complex armoas. Citrus fruit rubs shoulders with honey, and dried flowers combine with fleshy fruit, letting a few subtle spicy touches filter out. In the mouth, it is astonishingly fresh, evoking tantalising hints of strawberries, with notes of white flowers at the finish. This elegant champagne with its delicate aromas, all subtlety and lightness, will be the ideal accompaniment for a refined dinner with a close circle of guests who appreciate good things.
The most incredible champagne. Dom Perignon has always been enjoyed in the most exclusive and most famous places around the world. An effervescent wine of golden hue with glints of silver and green and numerous delicate and vivacious bubbles. The nose has fine intensity with classic background aromas of puree of apples, poached pears, vanilla, hazelnuts, melba toast and yellow-plum jam as well as superb hints of quince and chalk. On the palate the attack is incisive and combines acidic freshness with the finesse of the bubbles. Try it with rock lobster Parisian style, lobster thermidor, caviar, poached turbot with champagne sauce, or, on its own, since Dom Perignon is sufficient unto itself.
The jewel of Louis Roederer House is Cristal, created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II. This is champagne at its finest, as inspired today as it has always been, the embodiment of elegance and purity. Cristal is made according to the strictest criteria, based on a drastic process of selection applying to the vintage, the cru, the village, the grapes, and, finally, the wines. Only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the House's ten most celebrated crus are used in the production of this legendary cuvee.
